Is Consumption Of Maggi Good For Our Health?

Seasoning known as Maggi is used to adding taste or flavor to food. The reason for adding Maggi to foods is solely to add good flavor and taste to the food, its use on daily basis and excess consumption in the body has negative effects on the body.

The use of Maggi and other cubes as flavor enhancers is widespread across Africa for many different African recipes. These cubes and similar products add no nutritive value to our foods but also decrease the healthfulness of our foods.

Do you know that Maggi cube leads to high blood pressure? Be careful what you consume, emptying a whole sachet of Maggi cube in a meal will not make it more delicious, no never! Since it has been established that one of the major ingredients of Maggi cube is salt, and to make the matter worse, many women usually add several cubes to their cooking with additional salt.

It has been ascertained that most high blood pressure in the country can be traced to the consumption of excess salt derived partly from Maggi cubes.

However, the three primary ingredients contained in these bouillon cubes ( Maggi ) products are Salt, Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), and Hydrogenated oil (Trans fat).

Extensive research has been done on MGS, with no conclusion across the globe whether is safe to consume

Research has linked MSG consumption to asthma, obesity, and cancer among others. And in a small percentage of persons, MSG has been found to cause symptoms such as headache, numbness or tingling, muscle tightness, flushing, and generalized weakness when consumed in excess.

some people react to MSG with time while others feel the effect immediately.MSG can cause diseases like fibromyalgia, liver inflammation, memory problems, or migraines. Daily usage of such seasonings is detrimental to health. People have reported reactions after eating foods with MSG, but researchers have been unable to scientifically prove the allergy.

“Hydrogenated oil is semi-solid at room temperature. The oil contains trans fat, which increases LDL (bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL (good cholesterol). Trans fats from hydrogenated oil are fat that should be eliminated. People should be careful with the use of seasoning and the rate of consumption  Trans fat consumption has a definite link to increased chances of developing coronary artery disease which is a hardening and narrowing of arteries that supply blood to the heart.

My advice when considering whether or not to use bouillon cubes when cooking is to start off trying a couple of dishes without the cubes and salt only.  And decide whether the change suits you. If so then discontinue the use completely. If not then at least limit the use of these cubes, you will be surprised that food will taste just great. And please    I can get on my knees to say this  'Our Maggi intake should be controlled same as our salt'.
